Uzbekistan’s population consists mainly of ethnic Uzbeks, also known as Turkic groups, but there are significant minority groups of Russians. Almost 90% of the population is Muslim, but there are Orthodox Christians, Buddhists and Jews living in the country. Uzbeks, like their Central Asian counterparts, are popular for their warmth and friendly. The bazaars in Uzbekistan are paradise for shoppers. Haggling here is not only a way to live and have a good time. Tashkent’s markets, especially the Chorsu Bazaar are great places to shop for bargains. You can find soviet souvenirs like stamps, portraits by Lenin, military uniforms and caps. Other local souvenirs include light and intricately patterned pottery vivid clothing and rugs, and jewellery made with traditional silver. With its endless rows of fresh fruits and vegetables, smiling locals, and the beautiful bazaar at Bukhara It’s one of the most photographed.
