Health and Vaccinations

Tourists visiting Tajikistan don’t need to get immunized. However, they should be vaccinated in Typhoid and Tetanus in addition to Polio, Hepatitis A and Polio. Malaria is also able to be seen in Tajikistan, so it is an excellent idea to talk to your local GP for guidance on immunisations.

Cultural Sensitivity

On our excursions, you’ll frequently meet local people all with distinct traditions and customs. We therefore request that you be courteous and treat them with respect. Your tour-guides and tour-leaders will always be able to provide you with the appropriate advice.

First, it is important to note that Central Asia has a more flexible attitude to Islam than its neighboring countries of Pakistan and Afghanistan. Central Asia is a Muslim region, so it’s essential to be careful in certain areas. Although both women and men are allowed to wear shorts and T-shirts in cities, they should not wear T-shirts or sleeves that are long. However, anyone visiting the mosques that are active should wear pants which are lower than the knees and tops that cover the shoulders. A head scarf is also advised for females. This tour takes us to remote places that are not often frequented by tourists. Local people are modest when it comes to dressing, so it is likely that you’ll feel more comfortable in conservative clothing.

Language & Religion

The official language of Tajikistan is Tajik. Russian is used regularly for communication and business.

The majority of people follow Sunni Islam, with the small minority being followers of Russian Orthodox, Catholicism, Buddhism and Judaism.

Food and drinks

This tour focuses mainly on soups and other meats. In the more remote and higher altitude places vegetables can be difficult to come by. There are plenty of dried fruit and nuts to sample.

For alcohol, the choice is mainly limited to vodka or beer. Those who want something different – Scotch or Gin for example – should purchase it duty-free and bring it with them. Mixer drinks like tonic waters aren’t easy to find, though.
