The water-based facial cleanser was created by Jean-Noel Thorel, french founding father of the skincare collection Bioderma. Micellar water was created to cleanse and hydrate because the naturally hard tap water was too harsh on skin, leading to dry, dull complexions.
“Tough touch water is arrested for a higher quantity of dissolved minerals,” affirms Julie Russak, MD, of Russak Dermatology Clinic in NYC. “This can change the protective barrier of your skin and also degrade it, making skin susceptible and vunerable to environmental damage and pollution.”
