Regional bursary prize named after the Victorian newspaper group publisher George PR Pulman is constantly on the offer sponsorship to good causes.
Many West Country communities have in mind the name George Pulman well. He’s considered something of a Victorian media mogul who founded Pulman’s Weekly News way back in 1857.
His media brands always been an abundant news source for upwards of 150 year throughout the prime agricultural counties of Devon, Dorset and Somerset.
Pulman’s news was always renowned because of its reliability and trustworthiness. The fact that was published by Pulman’s journalists might be considered as being true.
What people may well not know is that George Pulman seemed to be an ongoing committed Christian who worshipped regularly at his local town church in Axminster, Devon.
To help you rouse local attendance, George would enthusiastically take part in the church organ on a Sunday morning. There he continued the meet and marry his young wife, who had previously been likewise attracted to turned into a regular member of the same Axminster congregation.
Throughout his life he advocated the importance of building community: through Church, rural life and local news. He always upheld values of truth and helped give voice to many West Country causes and concerns that may otherwise have already been cast aside and forgotten.

Duncan Williams, from Devon, that is the current managing editor of Pulman’s Weekly News & Advertiser Series, says: “The Pulman’s Award and bursary will continue to uphold precisely the same values of George Pulman and is also open for nominations throughout every season.”
The bursary prize makes donations in the past 1 year for the Bibic Football Fundraiser in Yeovil, the Dorset Blind Association along with the creation of new talking newspapers and recorded books to the elderly and partially sighted.
Of late the Pulman’s Award assists fund the publication of the series of skills training workbooks and specially tailored courses built to help ex-offenders find work and rebuild purposeful lives back from the community.
Countless leaflets and booklets are also distributed over the West Country to aid enlighten young people concerning the hazards of drugs and addiction.
Publishing, in all of the its many forms, remains as relevant today in only exactly as it absolutely was when George Pulman was alive.
It has a great capability to do good.
