Everyday Theology

Whenever the phrase “Theology” is mentioned, pictures of the seminary, thick theological books, Greek and Hebrew terms, along with other highfalutin expressions would come around one’s mind. It appears as though “Theology” is restricted to the “holy ones”, the “chosen ones”, as well as the intellectuals. If you’re familiar with the writings of Karl Barth, Martin Luther, Augustine, and so forth, you are near to inner towards the group of friends of biblical scholars.

Considerably more if you possibly could speak their language and it is able to produce an academically accepted theological work. I have been previously trainees of an Bible School and Theological seminary. Both institutions have solved the problem to get deeper insight to Church History, Systematic Theology and Biblical backgrounds. Yet even midst the lessons and classroom discussions, questions still roam over the internet. Are all these true? Please don’t misunderstand me. I’m a firm believer that this Bible is the sole authority over life. I believe that the Bible will be the Word of God. But being Alaska , I am caught between the whole world of reality and faith, and bridging the gap from one to the other is a pretty mental and spiritual feat. Yet, I believe, too that God’s Spirit and style are at work to teach us beyond just what the mind can not comprehend.

Theology is described as the research into God, in the Greek word “Theos” (God) and “logos” (study of). According to such, does is signify Theology be learned? Can God be grasped by the human mind? Can God be described by simply words? If one has a doctorate degree in Theology, would that mean that, that person already a firm grasped of God Himself?

We’ve met professors of numerous degrees, and I have met simple folks with simple thoughts. Yet, comparing about how they view God and express who God is always to them, the first kind (most, although not all) could have a mouthful of jargon of expressions through the books… a Greek word there… a Hebrew term there… leaving her or his listeners at reduction in space. On the other hand, rogues, the straightforward ones, would talk about practical things they have experienced of God’s character. If for the children God is nice, chances are they testify of how God presents for the children or has given them nutrients.

From whom would I listen more, to the academician as well as to individual who contains the experiences? It is just a common praoclaiming that “Experience is the greatest teacher.” Theory would only remain a theory unless it is proven true by experiments or by real experience. To put it differently, Theology would simply be mere concept of God, unless you’ve a true connection with that truth about God.

God should indeed be real, but unless that reality transcends the mind which is proficient in everyday situations, the conviction of such truth could not go deep in the guts and soul, nor he or she could convince others to believe such truth.
